Hydcal is a hardenable and rigid composition based on calcium hydroxide produced from the reaction of two components: a base paste and a catalyst paste, which must be mixed at the time of use. It is used for cavity lining and pulp protection in restorative procedures.

Hydcal does not inhibit the polymerization of composite resins used in restorations. It is highly resistant to dissolution by phosphoric acid used in the acid etching of dental structures. It is a radiopaque material with a color similar to that of dentin.
